The Hokkaido Police Department has issued a notice regarding precautions to be taken when participating in winter sports in backcountry areas. In order to prevent accidents and enjoy Hokkaido's winter safely, remember that there are always dangers and be aware of the following points.

1) Check the weather and avalanche conditions
2) Check the terrain and route
5) Start mountaineering with proper winter equipment
6) Submit a mountaineering plan
7) Have the courage to withdraw
