According to the revision of the Civil Code, the legal age of adulthood has been lowered from 20 to 18, effective as of April 1st, 2022.

Hokkaido Foreign Resident Support Center has made an infographic of the information released by the Ministry of Justice and the Immigration Bureau of Japan to help people understand the many changes related to the lowered legal age. Please use if needed.
